Nurturing wellbeing and strengthening communities through holistic social work practice
At Muddy Minds Matter, I am dedicated to providing compassionate counselling, professional supervision, and impactful project consultancy. Based in Magandjin (Brisbane), the intention is to support social work and human service professionals, individuals and communities to build on their strengths as they navigate the complexities of life, work and family. It is inevitable that our minds can feel muddy sometimes. But playing in the mud can be mindful, creative and energising too! With it can come great calmness, creativity and opportunity to see things from new perspectives.
About Muddy Minds Matter
'Muddy minds matter' might seem like an unusual name for a social work practice but it is a name that speaks to me and my work. It's all about acknowledging that being faced with muddiness can feel overwhelming but with creativity, playfulness, thoughtfulness and practice fabulous things can emerge!
I believe that people are the experts in their own lives, work, and communities. Whether someone is seeking counselling, professional supervision, group facilitation, project design, or staff training, I begin with the belief that the knowledge, strengths, and solutions already exist within the people I am working alongside. My role is not to provide answers, but to create the conditions for reflection, connection, creativity, discovery and change.
My practice is grounded in person-centred, collaborative, strengths-based, anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approaches. I work alongside individuals, groups, and organisations with curiosity and respect recognising that our experiences are shaped not only by personal circumstances but also by the relationships, communities, and systems around us. Together, we explore challenges, identify strengths, and uncover pathways forward that align with people's values, goals, and aspirations.
Creativity is central to my work. I enjoy using creative and participatory approaches that help people think differently, make meaning, and generate new possibilities. Whether through conversation, storytelling, reflective activities, visual methods, hands-on creativity, or collaborative problem-solving, I adapt my approach to what resonates most with the people and communities I am working alongside.
This philosophy also guides my approach to designing and facilitating groups, projects, and training. I value lived experience, meaningful participation, and co-design, creating spaces where diverse perspectives can be heard and where collective wisdom can emerge. By building on existing strengths and knowledge, I support individuals, teams, and organisations to develop practical, sustainable, and meaningful solutions that are grounded in their own expertise and experience.
